Notes:	General Overview: This anthology examines the impact of race, class and gender on the experience of domestic violence in the United States. It includes discussion of strategies to prevent violence, especially alternatives to the criminal justice system. Discussion: This book is divided into three parts. The first, more theoretical, section introduces theories of intersectionality and examines the relationship of feminism with multiculturalism and with the experiences of lesbians of colour, immigrant women, black women and poor women. The second section examines the same issues from an empirical standpoint. Statistical information, personal stories of battered women and case studies are used to describe the specific conditions for African-American women, Native Americans, Jewish Americans, white working class women and Puerto Rican and South Asian immigrant women. The third section addresses the possibility of change through community based strategies. These strategies include culture circles which aim to empower women and hold men accountable; forgiveness and redemption; church based anti-violence education; and programs focussing on job training, housing and living skills.
