Produced by Older Women Speak Up, this book documents the stories of a dozen women who have survived a lifetime of domestic violence. Contributors were generally over the age of sixty and from all parts of Australia. These stories, published here for the first time, result from non-directed interviews conducted by Sargent, a sociologist, and clearly demonstrate the links between an abusive childhood and abusive relationships in young adulthood and into middle age. The second section of the book reproduces discussions of violence within housing communities by several focus groups of women.
