Overview: Drawing on statistical data from a national crime victimisation survey and national homicide reports, this fact sheet presents findings on nonfatal and fatal violent crimes committed against women in the United States (US).

Discussion: The report makes use of the Bureau of Justice Statistics' National Crime Victimization Survey from the years between 1993-2008 and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting Program's Supplementary Homicide Reports from the years between 1993-2007. Using statistical data from these two sources, the report focuses on partner violence that is non-fatal, as well as violence which ends in death, rape and sexual assault and stalking of women. The authors include estimates of the rate of crimes against women, as well as characteristics of crime and victims. Crime trends are also presented and compared to crimes against men.
