This Factsheet 3 forms part of a series of 4 legal fact sheets that together give information on domestic violence restraining orders in the Northern Territory. Factsheet 3 ‘Domestic Violence, Children and Restraining Orders’ – briefly explains about children and restraining orders; and family court orders about residency and contact. It also gives the following information on what to do when applying for a restraining order: if the applicant’s child has experienced violence from the defendant or has seen the defendant’s violence towards her/him; if there is already a Family Court order in place; or if the children are not at risk. Key Northern Territory contact numbers for the crisis line (for counselling or for information about crisis accommodation, sexual assault services, legal advice); contact numbers for legal advice or advocacy services, and domestic violence counselling are also listed.
