Notes:  Highlights some of the major issues associated with the incidence and relatively hidden nature of date rape in Australia, outlining suggested strategies for prevention and intervention. A definition of and background to the prevalence of date rape is provided, as is an explanation of some of the terminology used in and stereotypes surrounding discussions of the issue. The role of alcohol and drugs used to facilitate date rape is also addressed. Responses to and modes of preventing date rape, ranging from criminal justice to social welfare, are then discussed. Although there is an attempt to summarise the physical, mental, social and economic costs of date rape, the complexity of the issue is acknowledged and further research advocated.
