Notes:	This paper was written to provide an overview to practitioners, researchers and policy-makers of the work being done in the area of child abuse. In particular, it examines research into the different responses required for children experiencing single abusive events and children suffering multiple events as well as models developed to account for the effects of chronic and/or multiple types of victimisation. The related concepts of complex trauma and cumulative harm are also discussed. Discussion throughout the article incorporates the 5 forms of child maltreatment: sexual abuse; physical abuse; psychological maltreatment; neglect; and witnessing family violence.
