Notes:  Presents the methodology and findings of an Alaskan (USA) study directed at establishing the links between domestic violence, social isolation and drug dependence in a sample of street-recruited female drug users. The results indicate that social isolation and domestic violence are independently related and that drug use was a factor in vulnerability of women to domestic violence by sexual partners. Substance dependence was not, of itself, causally related to domestic violence and the combined effect of social isolation and substance abuse did not significantly increase women's risk of exposure to violence by intimate partners.
