Notes:  This article discusses the findings from an analysis of data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study, which followed a cohort of 4898 births in 20 US cities.

Data obtained at age 1, 3 and 5 years of the child participants looked at the variables of poverty levels and maternal marriage status in the presence of domestic violence (DV) in determining the behavioural effects of DV on children.

Authors found that children living in poor environments were less affected by DV than children living in non-poor situations. Additionally, children living with unmarried mothers exhibited more externalising behaviour problems but fewer internalising behaviour problems compared to children living with married mothers.
