Notes:  Article discusses the importance of identifying a history of sexual violence in women presenting to general practice, in order to provide optimal healthcare and avoid re-traumatisation. Long term physical and psychological health problems, psychosocial difficulties, risk taking behaviour and premature death may be associated with a history of sexual violence. The author concludes that priorities in health management include addressing the pervasive and long-term consequences of sexual violence and encouraging preventive care.
