Notes:  Outlines the methodology and results of a US study that examined levels of depression in women using domestic violence shelters. An overview of research into the link between domestic violence and depression and the factors associated with it is provided and the limitations of previous studies are identified. Findings suggest that re-establishing victims' sense of control is key to therapeutic intervention and that social support networks play an important role in mediating the negative impact of violence on women's psychological well-being.
