Notes:	Provides a summary of health and settlement problems identified in a needs assessment of refugee women from Latin America, currently residing in Perth, WA. Highlighting the fact that experiences of torture/trauma in refugee women’s country of origin is not necessarily the only form of ‘excess baggage’ that may disadvantage this population, the article presents a brief background to some of these issues before presenting the methodology and results of the study. Utilising a multi-dimensional definition of ‘health’ and participant stories as illustration, the study identifies factors such as nerves, fear, social isolation and domestic violence as key areas of concern for women and discusses their use of health services as a means for overcoming these problems. Suggests that, although many refugee women view resettlement as a positive opportunity, most experience some degree of stress in the process and this creates a responsibility, on the part of the Australian government, to ensure that services provided for refugees are responsive to their sociocultural needs.
