Notes: | Reports an a pro intervention system, which works by a coordinated approach to deal with domestic violence in the criminal justice system. Examines preliminary data from a larger US study to determine whether a model court results in a higher proportion of charges, whether availability will increase victims’ usage of the criminal justice system, and the profile of the offenders. Reviews literature on domestic violence and its significance to model courts, and provides an explanation of 2 types of batterers. Statistical analysis on charges laid, the way they were processed by the model court, and the profile of defendants are presented. Data did not support the hypothesis that various negative consequences would result from the use of greater powers to deal with domestic violence. |
