Notes:	Describes the rationale, methodology and results of a US study designed to identify specific practice strategies for facilitating the empowerment of women, by comparing the behaviours and experiences of social workers and clients in two distinct groups – a women’s political advocacy group and a group for domestic violence survivors. Some of the major problems associated with empowerment models are discussed and the need for strategies which address women’s common experiences of lack of voice, isolation and alienation is advocated. The importance of collectivity, acceptance, growth and interdependence within empowerment based projects and service settings generally is highlighted.
