Notes:  Provides a background to the introduction of stalking legislation in the United States before reviewing the available research on kinds of stalking behaviours, characteristics of stalkers, victims’ perceptions of stalkers, the effects of stalking on the victims and the various legal and social interventions which have been implemented in response to this emerging threat. Research conducted into potential preventative mechanisms is also discussed, including studies which examined intervention with perpetrators. Highlights the need for further research into the effectiveness of legal and other interventions with victims and perpetrators of both domestic and non-domestic stalking situations and the importance of incorporating a recognition of factors of race, gender sexual orientation and disability into our understanding of stalking behaviours
