Notes:  Presents the methodology and results of a study aimed examining the prevalence and particular nature of post-traumatic stress disorder amongst Israeli battered women. The intensity of psychiatric symptoms of PTSD and suicide risk were used to compare battered women and women who had suffered other kinds of trauma. Although diagnosis of PTSD in participants was made via a self-report questionnaire and so may have been incomplete, the findings suggest a significant number of women who experience domestic violence suffer from PTSD and that the likelihood of developing PTSD is greater for these women than for those who experience different kinds of trauma.
