Notes:  Presents the methodology and results of a US study aimed at exploring the relationship between adolescent violent victimisation perpetrated by family and non-family members and subsequent criminal behaviour. A review of existing research into adolescent victimisation, its causes and consequences, is conducted and the paucity of literature dealing with the specific criminal consequences of violence against adolescents is highlighted. The findings suggest a strong link between teenage experiences of violence and later criminal involvement, regardless of the relationship between perpetrator and victim and the need for preventative and early intervention programmes for adolescents is advocated.
