Notes: | Presents the results of a survey of the health and developmental status and health services utilisation of children residing in women’s refuges in Cardiff, Wales, owing to family violence. Finds that such children were outside the health system, often because their mothers were reluctant for safety reasons to have their previous medical records sent on. Access to immunisation and developmental surveillance programmes was poor. Mothers expressed most concern with their child(ren)’s emotional and behavioural wellbeing, as well as their physical wellbeing and with child management (feeding, sleeping, toileting). The authors suggest various strategies to meet the needs of these children, including increased training and support of non-specialist refuge workers. |
