Notes:  This journal article provides a comprehensive analysis of the history of family law development, with particular focus on marriage, divorce, custody and parenting. Parkinson discusses these concepts in regard to ‘indissolubility’ and the way in which understandings of marriage and parenting as indissoluble have changed over time. Parkinson applies these ideas to measuring the risk of violence or harm towards women and children in partnerships in which the parents stay together in contrast to those that separate.
