Title: Teach your children well: third generation clients: is homelessness the norm?
Other Titles: Parity
Authors: Cresswell, Ara
Keywords: Housing;Impact on children and young people;Indigenous issues
Year: 2002
Publisher: Council to Homeless Persons
Citation: 15 (2), February 2002
Notes:  The author, who works at the Beryl Women’s Refuge in the ACT, points out that some of the children that have had contact with SAAP services later abuse their partners or become adult clients of the service. She reveals that nearly all of the third generation participants are Indigenous women and children. As a response, the Beryl Kids Club is operating to provide activities that teach them healthy behaviours. Similarly, in Western Australia, the Pat Giles Centre conducts the Domestic Violence Children’s Counselling Service. The author indicates that additional measures to the scarce existing ones are imperative to empower homeless children and prevent the intergenerational violent pattern.
