Notes:	Special issue title 'Out of the fire: domestic violence and homelessness' Also published as DVIRC Newsletter Autumn Edition, February 2001 Highlights the achievements of the women’s movement in the area of domestic violence and the strengths of various services available to victims, such as the safety and security of shared accommodation. Rejects criticisms of pro-women services as being anti-men, claiming the overall strategy is the elimination of violence and that as women are the primary victims, women’s safety must be the focus. Argues that services must provide women with choices and a range of options when planning for their own and their children’s safety. Suggests a reorientation of men’s emergency accommodation services towards domestic violence situations and better coordination of perpetrator programmes with relevant services such as gambling, alcohol and drug rehabilitation but argues that the safety and rights of the victim and children should always remain paramount and that perpetrators should take responsibility for the violent and criminal acts they commit.
