Notes:	General Overview: This short Australian article refutes some myths about homeless single women. Objective: The authors work at Catherine House, a supported accommodation service in Adelaide, South Australia. They use Supported Assisted Accommodation Program (SAAP) data and information provided by women using the service to refute myths about homeless single women. The purpose of the article is to educate the public about why women become homeless. Discussion: Homeless women rarely sleep rough, as it is too dangerous and are, therefore, often undercounted in statistics regarding homeless. They are more likely to sleep on friends’ and relatives’ couches, in their cars, or in other temporary accommodation, such as caravans, boarding houses, hospitals and prisons. They often have children who have been removed from them because of substance abuse or mental health problems. They have often experienced sexual abuse as children and partner violence as adults. They do not have equitable access to the private rental housing market. However, many are interested in furthering their education and improving their job prospects.
