Notes:  Presents the findings and methodology of a US study that examined the importance of cognitive and social resilience in reducing the anxiety of women exposed to domestic violence. While all participants came from lower socio-economic backgrounds, the findings suggest significant differences can exist between poor women’s experiences of violence and resilience to its many consequences. Recognises that resources needed by victims of violence are not purely of an economic nature and suggests that social policies and reforms aimed at building resilience must incorporate this recognition.
