Notes:  Looks at the application of the solution-focused approach to work with women experiencing domestic violence in Australia. Solution-focused counselling, developed in the US, is based on the assumption that people have the strengths and resources to resolve their problems. Outlines some of the key aspects of this approach and the types of questions which can be used by workers to assist women to get in touch with their strengths, with examples of the ways in which this approach might be used in working with women who have lived with violence and abuse. Cautions that this approach needs to be used within a narrative, feminist structural approach which prioritises women’s safety and men’s accountability, and not as a ‘toolkit’ or ‘recipe’ or in a way which minimises the trauma and seriousness of domestic violence.
