Notes:  Provides a chronological account of the impetus for, and development of, the Victorian Women’s Refuges & Associated Domestic Violence Services (VWRADVS or VRADS), discussing some of the major political, economic and social developments which have impacted on the refuge movement over the last thirty years and highlighting some of the ways in which services and practice models have evolved to meet changing client needs and social circumstances. Recognising both the positive achievements and the set backs of the last century, the author suggests that, although the movement today is more visible and more unified than ever, continuing commitment to, and coordination of, efforts directed at the eradication of violence against women, is essential.
