Notes:  Updates the progress in Victoria on the establishment of the Family Violence Court, a division of the Magistrates’ Court, as legislated by the Magistrates’ Court (Family Violence) Act 2004:. The Family Violence Court will be developed over four years from early 2005 and will be piloted in Ballarat and Heidelberg Magistrates’ Courts with an independent evaluation allowing what is learned from the pilot study to be applied statewide. The aim of the new court is to serve as a ‘one-stop shop’ where specialist magistrates and support services will be able to provide a more integrated response to people experiencing family violence as they seek protection orders or give evidence.
