Notes:	This UK journal article highlights the contradictory nature of current research and academic debate in relation to the gender symmetry or asymmetry of perpetrators of violence. It acknowledges the limited existing research on women as perpetrators of violence in intimate relationships and attempts to close this gap by conducting quantitative and qualitative research investigating the area. The current study concludes that men’s violence towards women does in fact occur more often, with greater intensity and more severe outcomes. This exploration of gender imbalance is valuable in its identification of implications for public policy, legislation, program development and interventions for victims and offenders, and therefore decisions about the allocation of resources.
