Notes:  Overview:This article presents research which attempts to examine the reasons behind the rates of intimate partner homicide in the US where the 1990s have seen the rates decrease in urban metropolitan centres.

A study was designed to look at 178 US cities with a population greater than 100,000 and to measure variables such as the male-victim and female-victim intimate partner homicide rate, legal service programs per 100,000, shelters per 100,000 and male to female ratios in the areas of employment, education and income.
* the study of intimate partner homicide is difficult due to the complex nature of the variables which may lead to homicide
