Notes:  Presents the methodology and results of an exploratory study aimed at testing the proposition that the psychological needs schemas of counsellors working with victims of sexual assault can be disrupted by processes of vicarious traumatisation. Strategies used by counsellors to cope with the stress and burnout they experience are examined and comparisons between the stress levels of sexual assault workers and counsellors in other fields are drawn. Limitations and implications of the study are discussed and it is concluded the results support this particular theoretical model of vicarious traumatisation.
