Notes:  Health care facilities are adequate settings to screen for domestic violence and provide information and referral. This study evaluates the degree of observance in monitoring for domestic violence in a Canadian abortion clinic and determines the prevalence of domestic violence among the patients. Almost 51 per cent of the women who presented to the clinic during the research period were asked about intimate partner abuse incidents. Language limitations, partner presence and emotional distress prevented screening of the remaining patients. Around 15 per cent of the 254 women asked about domestic violence reported having been abused in the past 12 months.
