This narrative is the author’s personal reflection of Chris McLean’s interview with Michael White, ‘Naming abuse and breaking from its effects’. The paper is part of the work performed by students of Dulwich Centre Advanced Certificate in Narrative Therapy for interstate practitioners. He considers the importance of linking our individual story to larger stories. People feel relieved when difficult experiences are normalised. The metaphor of a journey of migration for people trying to move away from abuse gave him the idea of creating maps of the different territories of people’s lives. He wonders about gentle or collaborative ways to draw attention to abuse and proposes a number of questions to find out about experiences of abuse.
