Notes:  Overview: This Australian paper comprises a review of local and international literature concerning the nexus between domestic violence, employment and the workplace.

Discusson: The authors examine issues relating to the workplace as a potential site of domestic and family violence, as well as the effects of such violence on women's paid employment and productivity. The paper includes discussion of the effects of domestic and family violence on co-workers, employers and others. It goes on to outline several models of workplace intervention, which employers and workplaces can implement to offer support to employees experiencing domestic and family violence, such as creating workplace safety policies, introducing flexible leave arrangements and creating a supportive work environment.

The authors present several examples of successful Australian and international workplace initiatives implemented by unions, individual businesses and corporate business alliances to prevent and respond to domestic and family violence. They conclude by noting the need for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the sustainability of such initiatives. They also discuss the need for effective leadership in promoting development of prevention in this area.
