Presents the methodology and findings of a comparative study aimed at assessing the rates of partner killing by women in cohabiting and marital relationships in the United States and Australia. Identifies potential mediating factors, such as partner age, age difference between partners and relationship type. A review of research into homicide in intimate relationships and the links between marital status and intimate partner homicide is conducted and the absence of studies focusing specifically on identifying predictor variables is highlighted. Results indicate that men in both countries are at a greater risk of partner homicide in cohabiting relationships than they are in marital relationships and that younger women in married relationships and older women in cohabiting relationships are the most likely groups to engage in intimate partner homicide.
