Notes:  General Overview: This US paper considers methods used to measure the impact of domestic violence on children and makes recommendations for future research.

Results: The results of the review are summarised in tables outlining externalising behaviour problems, such as aggression, and internalising behaviour problems, such as anxiety and depression. All research showed significant small to medium effects on the behaviour of children exposed to domestic violence. The authors consider the impact of moderating factors such as gender, age and the extent of exposure. It is not yet clear how exposure to domestic violence produces these effects.

Conclusions: The authors make recommendations regarding improved methodology in future research, with the aim of informing the design of treatment programs.
