Notes:	Special issue title 'Out of the fire: domestic violence and homelessness' Also published as DVIRC Newsletter Autumn Edition, February 2001 Examines the development and achievements of women’s refuges in NSW and compares this with the philosophical and practical approaches taken in Victoria and Queensland. Argues that although there has been a shift in NSW towards more integrated community responses to domestic violence, interstate movements are still operating on a high security model requiring the location of women’s refuges to remain confidential. Provides a rationale for making domestic violence and housing options for victims more visible in the community and suggests the adoption of conflicting models has hampered inter-state referral processes in a number of ways. Advocates for increased co-ordination and discussion between state organisations so that these barriers might be overcome.
