Notes:  This brief article discusses attempts to obtain data related to family violence after the Victorian Black Saturday bushfires. The authors first provide background about the gendered nature of disaster impacts, as well as an overview of the international literature noting increase in intimate partner violence after disasters. The authors then discuss the systemic challenges encountered when attempting to obtain data and the importance of such data in informing policy and research.
