Notes:  Describes some of the features and outcomes of the Townsville International Women’s Conference (TIWC) held in July 2002 and attended by 400 women from 22 countries. The conference focused on corporate globalisation and its impact on women and disadvantaged groups and nations. The elimination of poverty, violence against women, terrorism and oppression were also addressed. There was a significant participation of Indigenous Australian women and women from non-English speaking backgrounds, which is considered an indicator of the success of the conference. Nevertheless, some overseas speakers and participants were not able to attend because of the denial of their visas. Seventy-two papers and twelve panel/workshop seminars were presented during four days, and further discussion of the matters continues through their website.
