Notes:  This article presents the results of a UK study conducted with 184 families who had been notified by the police to children's services in two English authorities. Over the course of 21 months families were followed through case records and service providers were interviewed. Among the findings:
* 52% of cases of notifications where no further action was taken were subsequently involved with children's social services i.e re-notified, re-referred.
