Notes:  Therapeutic jurisprudence implies that the legal process and its actors consider the psychological well-being of the victims, defendants and witnesses involved. This article addresses the need for legal practice that prevents negative mental health consequences and promotes an ethic of care in domestic violence trials. A client-centred approach, where prosecutors interact with the victim, might empower victims by translating their needs into rights. Excerpts of domestic violence trial transcripts from the US are utilised to illustrate a victim/client-centred therapeutic approach. The stages of the trial process included are preparations for trial, consultations with the victim, pre-trial motions, and direct and cross-examination by prosecutors. The implications for legal education and training are also discussed.
