Notes:  This study reports on Aboriginal women's experiences of a transitional housing program in South Australia. The program was established to assist long-term homelessness as a result of family violence through provision of services such as low-rent tenancy, household furniture and appliances, individual casework; counselling; and collective activities for women and their children (art, yoga, after-school homework groups).

The researchers interviewed 13 of the 31 Aboriginal women then assisted through the program and found an overwhelmingly positive response about the service. Themes emerging from the interviews covered: workers and the environment; children and family-focused practice; practical support; and suitable housing, sustainable tenancies and stability.

The article notes that of the 31 families who had accessed the program, 26 had left the service's transitional housing and of these, 23 were in stable public housing, with just over one-third sustaining their tenancies for over two years.
