Notes:	General Overview: This article reports on a study from the United States [US], examining the extent to which abusive men use their children to manipulate or threaten their partners, and the conditions under which this occurs. The article provides a brief literature review, an outline of the research, discussion of results and recommendations for future research and policy. Discussion: The researchers interviewed 156 women, survivors of intimate partner violence, who were participating in a larger research project. Each woman studied had at least one child. Variables investigated were: * Assailant’s relationship to the children (biological father, stepfather, father figure, non father figures) The authors present and discuss the results, finding a majority (88%) of women reported that their assailants had used their children to control them in various ways and to various degrees. One way analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis were carried out to determine relationships between the different variables. The authors discuss the results, exploring possible explanations for the findings and making recommendations for further studies.
