Notes:  Outlines the methodology and results of a US study aimed at identifying the most effective ways of bridging the service gap between domestic violence and substance abuse services. The findings indicate face-to-face feedback groups may be more effective in obtaining an initial assessment and in engaging women with substance abuse programmes, particularly in the shelter/refuge environment. The substance use check up (SUCU) is proposed as a standard treatment intervention but further research and development of existing assessment tools are advocated.
