Notes:	his research, which used court files asits primary data source, was commissionedby the Australian GovernmentAttorney-General's Department to provideinformation that could assist in monitoringits Family Law Violence Strategy in the wake ofthe 2006 family law reforms. In essence, the studysought to produce relevant baseline data that precededthe reforms. To meet this aim, the researchersdrew on a sample of files that were as recent as possiblebut had been finalised. Knowing that it is notuncommon for litigants to return to court even where'final' orders have been made (Kelly & Fehlberg,2002), the researchers selected the 2003 calendaryear as the time period of interest.
