Notes: | Reviews theoretical approaches used to explain domestic violence and the difficulties in undertaking research in the area of perpetrator violence/actions. Outlines some of the indicators of abusive potential in men, such as low self esteem, and the various group intervention programmes for abusive men. This Australian study evaluates the effectiveness of six group programmes in Melbourne by looking at whether there is a reduction in the incidence of physical and psychological abuse by participants, and whether participants’ self esteem is increased. Results indicate that while there was a reduction in violence, there were no changes in self esteem. |
