Notes:  This letter to the editor discusses the results of a survey conducted with 50 paramedics in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) which revealed the lack of knowledge and preparedness workers felt in dealing with cases of suspected intimate partner violence (IPV).

The authors propose that government, health and paramedic organisations acknowledge the need for greater research, education and activity in this crucial service area. In particular, they stress the importance of accurate reporting of cases of IPV and the use of IPV screening tools.
