Notes:  Examines whether there is a commonsense notion of justice in cases where women kill their abusers and examines what factors constitute cognitive decision rules and influence judgements. Uses psychological method to identify psychological factors that are important in judgements to determine notions of justice. Some of the research shows that unfairness is due to juror perceptions eg battered woman is partly responsible and masochistic if she stays in the relationship. Also research suggests that research has failed to examine the primary question: What do jurors believe are important about cases involving battered women who kill? Found that jurors usually use their own commonsense notions of justice, eg: severity of abuse. Problem in the study was notified ie that it used a very small sample and a more diverse sample is needed.
