Notes:  Outlines the methodology and findings of a US study aimed at exploring the significance of battered women’s perception of risk as a predictor of re-assault by perpetrators. Previous research directed at identifying risk factors for continuing and escalating violence is considered and the various models and instruments that have been used to assess risk are discussed. The findings suggest the analysis of women’s perceptions of risk significantly improve capacity to predict repeat assault. Limitations of the study and implications of the findings for future research are identified.
