Notes: | Reviews and summarises some of the key issues raised in the recent publication, Batterer as Parent: Addressing the Impact of Family Dynamics. The focus of the book is on the relationship between family violence and the family law system in the context of recent amendments to the Family Law Act which favour joint custody. In reviewing the text, the article identifies the author’s analysis of perpetrators, their parenting styles and the impact of their behaviour on the family environment, and the outcome of custody disputes. Two key theories of assessment informing the evaluation of custody disputes critiqued by the text are also described briefly. |
