Notes:	General Overview: :This journal article from the United States reports on a study of repeatedly violent men attending a batterer program and found participants did not have any serious personality dysfunction or psychopathology. Objective: :The domestic violence field has identified that amongst batterers of intimate partners, there is a group of men who continue to reassault, despite intervention and counselling. This study sought to investigate such men, to attempt to characterise and identify personality tendencies that would enable appropriate criminal justice sanctions. Discussion: :This study compared participants in a battered treatment program who had reassaulted their partners more than once since commencing treatment (the repeat reassaulters), with men who had not reassaulted or reassaulted only once (the other participants). It found that repeat reassaulters tended to be younger and were more likely to have substance abuse problems, severely abuse their partners, be generally violent, have been previously arrested, and have dropped out of the program. There was no difference in the distribution of personality dysfunction or psychopathology.
