Notes:  Examines the status of victims of domestic violence under the Western Australian Criminal Injuries Compensation scheme, highlighting and critiquing its various contradictions. An overview of criminal injuries compensation generally is provided and the methodology adopted by the authors in reviewing applications made to the Office of the Assessor for Criminal Injuries Compensation in 1992 is outlined. Specific provisions of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Act 1985 (WA) which create problems for victims of domestic violence are examined and some of the assumptions underlying these provisions are challenged. Concludes that the Act perpetuates the blaming of the victim and fails to acknowledge the social, economic and psychological context within which domestic violence occurs.
