Notes:  General Overview: This short Australian article explores the similarities and differences between women’s experiences of domestic violence in Mongolia and Australia.

Discussion: The author interviewed eleven Mongolian women and eleven Australian women. She found that Mongolian women benefited from strong family support when leaving violence, while the Australian women did not. Most of the women from both countries found counselling and participating in a women’s support group very helpful. Other ways of recovering from violence included solitary reflection, paid or voluntary work and education.

The author found a common narrative of loss of identity, loss of hope, and desperation, followed by recovery and reconnection to friends, family and the wider community.
